Tom Douglas shares exclusive details on Grange Hall project

Seattle Kitchen host and restaurateur Tom Douglas is going into the grocery business.

Seattle Kitchen host and James Beard Award-winning Restaurateur Tom Douglas has a new project in the works and he’s sharing exclusive details with KIRO Radio listeners.

Set to open in April, the project is currently dubbed “Grange Hall” which Douglas says is inspired by farmer collectives that cropped up after the Civil War.

“The idea is farming and getting us ever and ever closer from the farm to the table.”

Located on 6th Avenue between Lenora and Blanchard, the new space has 20 foot ceilings and runs nearly the full length of a city block.

With all that space, Douglas is expanding this new operation beyond just a restaurant.

“There’s a lot of things I want to do in the food world that aren’t necessarily restaurants,” he says.

The large hall-like space is set to house a coffee shop, a bakery, a small restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and what Douglas seems most excited about: a grocery store.

“It’s going to be called Home Remedy,” says Douglas. “We’re going to have a line of frozen foods, a line of soups, all these things for you to take up to your apartment.”

The store will feature dishes and products from Tom Douglas restaurants.

“You might get ravioli from Cuoco in a little pack, or lasagna from Cuoco. You might get the dips and pita from Lola.”

Douglas says new space will even feature a radio and TV studio.

“It’s going to be great fun,” he says.
