Speed limit lowering on busy Snohomish County road

The signs are up, and the speeds are coming down.

Citing safety issues, the Washington State Department of Transportation is lowering the speed limit from 60 MPH to 50 MPH between Mount Index Road and the Index Junction.

It’s about a mile-and-a-half stretch of Highway 2 where it crosses the south fork of the Skykomish River.

The speed limit change is permanent. It takes effect on Oct. 20.
