Two exits off SR 520 are breaking up.

Contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will begin work on Friday to split the westbound SR 520 off-ramp to Northeast 51st and Northeast 40th streets into two separate exits.

The project is detailed on WSDOT’s blog.

After reviewing traffic data, along with public comments and suggestions, WSDOT engineers determined that the best solution would be to create a new exit, a half a mile down the freeway solely for traffic heading to Northeast 40th Street.

The project should help those stuck in traffic around the Microsoft campus, according to WSDOT.

The $350,000 project is expected to be complete in January, but most of the lane and ramp closures are scheduled for the next two weeks.
