How to drive through intersections when the stop lights are out

When the power goes out, how are drivers supposed to navigate through intersections without stop lights? (Clay Junell, Flickr)

When the wind blows in, you might think of a warm drink and Netflix binge, but what you should be thinking about are potential power outages.

Especially out on the road. Several dark traffic lights have been reported this week in Lake City, Ballard and Shoreline. When stoplights go out, sometimes drivers become confused.

What do you do when a stoplight goes out? Dark signals are always treated like 4-way stops (you yield to the driver on the right if you reach the intersection at the same time as another vehicle).

Check out this video on how to navigate through an uncontrolled intersection.
