This photo gallery highlights some of the best imagery taken by Associated Press photographers in Latin America and the Caribbean last week.

Peruvians attended presidential campaign rallies and prepared polling stations for general elections. With the daughter of jailed former strongman Alfredo Fujimori the runaway favorite to get the most votes, all eyes were on the race for second place and the right to face Keiko Fujimori in a June presidential runoff.

Some Peruvians remember Keiko Fujimori’s father as the man who ordered the army to drive a tank to shut down Congress in 1992 and say they would never vote for anyone connected to him. Those in rural areas praise him for beating back the Maoist-inspired rebel group that slaughtered families during Peru’s brutal armed conflict, and many said they would cast ballots for his daughter.

About a half million people now run their own businesses in Cuba, such as the barber serving a client at his small privately owned shop in Havana, though they represent just a small fraction of the economy.

Copa Libertadores soccer matches continued across the region, while Argentina hosted the Motorcycle Grand Prix.

Government supporters rallied behind Ecuador’s President Rafael Correa in favor of his proposals to deal with the economic downturn brought on by the slump in oil prices.

Colombia’s top court ruled to expand LGBT rights by giving gay couples marriage rights. Before, gay couples were able to form only civil unions.
