Cooking With Girl Scout Cookies
Samoa Curry Arancini. That’s what you’re drooling over right now. But these fried risotto balls aren’t exactly like the ones that old Italian grandmothers roll between their palms. These have a special ingredient: Samoas, the popular chocolate coconut Girl Scout cookie.
The Girl Scouts of Western Washington cast their net out to food bloggers around the region, and asked them to create a unique, and delicious, dish that featured their cookies. They have since narrowed the submissions down to three finalists, including Seattleite Siiri Sampson, author of the the blog A Half Cup, and creator of the fried, cookie stuffed, risotto balls that you are still drooling over.
Siiri cooked the rice in coconut milk, sprinkled in some curry powder, stuffed a little chicken and a piece of Samoa inside, rolled the whole thing in crushed cookie and deep fried them until a trucker would eat one. A Greek yogurt, mint and basil dipping sauce completes the dish.
The other bloggers concocted equally quirky dishes, like Lemon Cookie and Shrimp Ravioli and Samoas Chicken Tenders and Noodle Salad.
You can hear my interview with Siiri this Saturday, at 1pm and Sunday at 11am, or listen to the podcast here, which will be up Saturday afternoon.
You can vote for your favorite Girl Scout Cookie inspired recipe, and find recipes for all the submissions, here until March 1st.
