Dying woman’s daughter has doubts about refund

Letter from Mimi Kim, daughter of Crystal denied a flight on Korean Air due to her cancer:

Hi Jason, Ron & Don,

Elisa Hahn from King5 stopped by my mother’s house this evening to let us know that Korean Airlines contacted her news station to state that they would be issuing a refund by Thursday.

Neither myself nor my mother have personally been contacted by Korean Air.

I have my doubts that the refund will be complete by Thursday, as Korean Air has failed to show any shred of integrity up to this point.

I would like to take this time to thank everyone who has expressed their concern and support. My mother was actually brought to tears as we were listening to callers during the 4 o clock broadcast hour. Thank you to the Sisterhood, the Brotherhood, and the Familyhood. With our deepest gratitude, we thank you for your support. By working together, we can ensure that no one else will experience what Korean Air did to my mother.

Letter from Korean Air assuring us that the refund will be given, and to cease our call to action by the Sisterhood:

Regarding the post on your website, Korean Air’s medical team requested more detailed information on Ms. Kim’s medical condition.

Like many other international airlines we follow IATA (International Air Transport Assoc.) guidelines when it comes to medical clearances. Most airlines require medical clearances when they have received information that a passenger might require medical attention and/or special equipment to maintain their health during the flight or might have their medical condition aggravated during or because of the flight. We are unable to release details of Ms. Kim’s health due to privacy issues.

We regret that we could not accommodate Ms. Kim on that flight, but our concern was for her health during the long flight. Twelve-hour flights create stress for even the healthy body. Korean Air’s intention is to provide a safe flight and wants to ensure each and every passenger’s safety and security.

Korean Air is issuing Mimi and Crystal Kim full refunds for their flights and paid for their overnight lodging.

Korean Air has long been a supporter of breast cancer awareness. The airline is comprised of almost 7,000 women who the airline supports with annual check-ups and medical education. The airline also increases awareness tactics – both in house and in flight – during October, the annual breast cancer awareness month.

Knowing these facts, we ask that you remove your call to action from your website and share this information with your listeners.

Thank you for your kind consideration.
