So when you think you have seen everything that the government will pay for, something like this comes up. In Boston Michelle Kosilek is claiming that the jail where she is being held is denying her medical treatment. What kind of treatment could the jails possibly deny? Sexual reassignment treatment. You see Michelle Kosilek used to be Robert Kosilek. Michelle is serving a life sentence for the 1990 murder of his wife. Kosilek claimed it was self defense after she poured boiling tea on his genitals. Why self defense? Robert eventually wanted to become Michelle, sounds like to me his wife might have been helping the guy/girl out.

That’s a complete side tangent. Michelle then sued the state stating that under the 8th Amendment refusing sexual reassignment surgery and treatment is cruel and unusual punishment. A judge sort of sided with her when he ordered electrolysis and hormone treatment for Michelle, but stopped short of ordering a sexual reassignment surgery.

Now I don’t know about you, but why are we paying for any of this? The person was convicted of murder. Robert/Michelle committed a crime that took one persons life and I’m sure left her family with a deep void that can’t be filled. Why award someone that has committed such a crime with gender reassignment? This medical procedure isn’t one that will save a persons life. It isn’t necessary by any stretch of the imagination. Yet here we are having to pay for a persons gender reassignment.

I know jail isn’t a nice place and I know that a lot of people come out more screwed up then when they went in, but I’m not willing to pay for a persons sexual reassignment. If they want it so bad then have their family pay for it. Don’t make the tax payers foot the bill for this one. If it makes Robert/Michelle uncomfortable that she can’t get her reassignment then so be it.
