Off-Air topic: School bus fight
Dori writes…
On the Big Show this afternoon, we talked about the school bus fight in Arizona. Right at the end of the hour, I got this e-mail from listener Jim:
Agree with your take on the girls on the bus.
BUT what bothers me: where the heck were the boys? These are supposed to be “young menâ€. There was a time when I would have expected a bunch of young men on the bus to stand up, and tell this girl to sit her ass down. Rip away the student indifference\support she’s thriving off of. Put her in her place. In fact, physically make her sit her ass down if necessary.
I just wonder what the hell has happened that the 16, 17, 18 year old males here I distinctly “boys†and not even close to being “menâ€. All I can think of is our super-feminized culture, especially schools, has given these boys little belief that they are men; that they have any responsibilities as men.

I don’t know if I will make this a topic Friday – but I’d love to get your comments here on the blog. Are the boys on this bus wimps for not somehow intervening? Should one of the boys have been a “man” and done something about the situation?
My guess if that if one of the boys had physically intervened, he’d be charged with sexual harassment and he would be the one kicked out of school.
I understand what Jim is trying to say, the same question crossed my mind. But is the downside of stepping in too great? If you had a son on that bus, would you want him to intervene? Or would you tell him to just sit there and watch what happened?
Comment here, and I’ll share the best comments on the show Friday.
