Woman burned trying to steal copper wire

A woman in Enumclaw was badly burned trying to steal copper wire.

“They cut through the cyclone fence into an electrical substation and got zapped by up to 115,000 volts,” says King County Sheriff’s spokesman John Urquhart.

The voltage burned a 32-year old woman allegedly attempting to steal the metal.

Urquhart says drug abusers often steal metal to trade in for cash.

“People that are using meth will pretty much steal anything that’s not nailed down, and what they like to steal is metal, copper, brass, anything they can get a little money for at a recycler.”
