Body of missing Everett man found in Stillaguamish River

An Everett man’s body was recovered from the Stillaguamish River on Tuesday.

Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Rebecca Hover said the 19-year-old went missing Monday evening, but he wasn’t found until 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.

“He’d been swimming in the river. At some point he started struggling and his friend went out to help him,” Hover said.

According to the sheriff’s office, they are unsure whether the man and his friend got pulled apart by the strong currents, or they were pulled apart because the victim was struggling so hard.

“Rivers are running high and fast right now because of the snow melt, and we’ve tried to warn people about that so they are aware,” Stover said.

The man’s body was found approximately 35 yards from where he was seen going underwater, he was not wearing a life jacket.

“Life jackets need to be common as seatbelts and bicycle helmets because they really do make a difference. We rarely recover a body with a life jacket on it,” Stover said.
