Man pays state patrol for loaner gas 35 years later

The Washington State Patrol just received payback for gas they gave a stranded driver 35 years ago.

In the old days, if you ran out of gas, a Washington State Patrol trooper would help you on the side of the road by pumping a little out of his cruiser into yours to get you on your way.

The trooper would then hand you an envelope so you could send in a payment for that gas.

The WSP just received one such envelope with payment from a man that found the envelope in an old toolbox.

“He decided it was time to pay up, so he sent $10 in the envelope back to our agency, 35 years later,” says Guy Gill, with the Washington State Patrol.

The state patrol no longer offers gas along the roadside due to safety reasons.
