Heading out on the water, a tried and true tradition of Seafair, could be trickier with fair-weather boaters crowding the lake on what’s expected to be a sunny festival weekend.

“We are expecting a lot of crowds this year. The weather looks like its going to be wonderful, which is great,” says Washington State Patrol Trooper Julie Startup.

To be better prepared, WSP is advising everyone to make sure they have a designated driver.

“With what we expect to be a lot more boats out on the water, we really need people to plan ahead, get yourself a designated boater, make sure you have the proper equipment on your boat so you can have a safe day,” says Startup.

If boaters are still looking for a place to tie up, Seafair is still excepting applications for a three day logboom pass, which can give you a front row seat to hydro plane and Blue Angels shows. Boats started showing up to the log boom as early Wednesday night.

“We want people to come out and have a great time. This is all about a celebration, but we do want people to be safe,” Startup says.
