Seattle councilmember against $80 car tab proposal
Car tab fee increases are still on the table and some Seattle City Council are weighing in on ideas that wouldn’t take $80 extra dollars from the drivers’ pockets.
The city council has been considering an $80 a year increase to pay for pothole repair, better bus and bike lanes and other transportation projects.
“We really have had very little time to consider it and I think we must look at it carefully,” said coucilmember Jean Godden.
“The way it was proposed with $80 it would have been a never ending tax, and I thought that it ought to be capped.”
Godden said that she has been looking at $40 proposal, and other council members have been looking at car tab increases of $50 or $60.
Her $40 proposal would allocate less money to transit and bike lane creation and contribute more funds to road repair.
