Beyond calling it “the perfect neighborhood joint,” the
Seattle Kitchen crew says Vios on Capitol Hill also offers
added benefits for parents of young kids.

“If you have kids and you are always looking for something
other than Chucky Cheese to go to with your kid…It’s
absolutely
quintessential for that,” said Seattle Kitchen host
Thierry Rautureau. “And the food
is delicious, which is why it’s so cool for a parent.”

Vios, a Greek restaurant at 19th Ave E. and Aloha, offers
a kid’s play area, “fully stocked with books and toys
where
young children have fun playing together,” says their
website.

“Unfortunately most parents who have very young toddlers
or kids, you go eat in places that don’t have good food,”
said Rautureau.

“Or you’re sitting there and you’re just always concerned
about the noise that you’re making. It’s a trauma even for
you to sit there worrying about the kids,” said chef Tom Douglas, co-host
of “Seattle Kitchen”.
“There, you don’t have to worry about it for one second.”

Douglas said the origination of the kid’s play area is a
sad story.

“Thomas [Soukakos]’s wife passed away and she’d just had a
baby. So here he is, this guy he makes his living cooking
and he has this little baby to take care of so he actually
built a restaurant with a little children’s center in
it.”

At first, Douglas said he was skeptical that a restaurant
with a play area could be a success.

“Now, when I go in there, it’s full of kids and it’s a
neighborhood stop, and people love it for that,” said
Douglas. “I think it’s charming that it worked.”

The Seattle Kitchen Show highly recommends Vios.

“It is a fun place to stop,” said Douglas whose favorite
dish on the menu is the roasted pork sandwich.

Rautureau, who said he’s typically not much of a sandwich
guy, said he often stops in to pick up the lamb souvlaki.
