Seattle Kitchen: Best brunch spots in town

Mmmm. Is there anything better than a good breakfast or brunch on a rainy Seattle weekend? (AP Photo)

While breakfast and lunch get their due respect during the work week, what’s not to like about a relaxing weekend brunch?

The Seattle Kitchen trio, heard on 97.3 KIRO FM, has a few
fail-proof brunch haunts.

Katy O is a fan of Le
Pichet on First Ave.
because “I love
those baked eggs. I
like the
little dish, I like that room.”

She added that it’s sort of the quintessential spot for an
urban breakfast with cute people to watch.

Thierry Rautureau admits he’s not a big fan of brunch, but
likes Tom Douglas’ restaurant Lola and “not because it’s your
restaurant, because it’s a good restaurant.”

As for Tom, he says Vera’s Restaurant in Ballard is a family
tradition that he started when he could put his daughter’s
car seat up at the table. They often make a visits
together when
she’s home from college.

“These days, I get a sausage patty, some sauteed spinach
and some whole wheat toast.”

What? Tom Douglas eats whole wheat toast and spinach at
brunch? It’s a shocking claim even to Thierry and Katy.

Tom’s lack of eggs prompted a hearty debate about how to
make a good omelette. Katy described Tom’s as a flat
pancake and Thierry’s does his like an airy, rolled crepe.

“Mine are much better than Thierry’s because we use our
neighbor’s eggs from the farm in Prosser,” explained Tom.

And to Thierry for the rebuttal?

“We get our eggs from a young Chinese woman from Mount
Vernon, thank you very much.” She apparently, knows all
the chickens by name.

Regardless of your favorite omelette style or where to sit
down mid-morning, Tom confirms we Seattlelites love our
brunch.

“We do more business on Saturday and Sunday (at Dahlia
Lounge) than we do Monday through Friday.”

The
Seattle Kitchen Show
can be heard on the new 97.3 KIRO
FM weekend at 8 a.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. on Sunday.
