Police arrest man in death of man found in Everett swamp

EVERETT, Wash. (AP) — Police say they’ve arrested a 46-year-old man in connection with the death of a man found dead and partially submerged in an Everett swamp on April 7.

Everett police say they arrested James D. Archer Thursday on a murder charge.

Archer is accused of killing 54-year-old David Webster and dragging his body into a swampy area where it was later found.

Police say it appears Webster was killed because he stole money from the Archer’s girlfriend a few days earlier. The men argued about the theft, police say, then fought during which Webster was struck in the head.

Archer allegedly bound the victim, found the missing money and then attempted to hide the body after realizing Webster was dead.

Detectives do not believe anyone else was involved.
