Man sentenced to 34 years for murdering Tacoma prostitute
TACOMA, Wash. (AP) — A man has been sentenced to 34 years in prison for the 2006 fatal shooting of a woman in Tacoma.
The Pierce County Prosecutor’s Office says Brandon Lee Farmer was sentenced to 407 months in prison on Thursday for the slaying of 45-year-old Velma Tirado.
Earlier this month, a jury convicted the 30-year-old Farmer of first-degree murder.
Prosecutors say in August 2006, Farmer and a friend picked up Tirado, who was working as a prostitute in Tacoma. After completing a sex act, Farmer shot Tirado in the head and fled with his friend in their vehicle.
The case was reopened in 2014 after Tacoma police got a tip that led to Farmer’s arrest.
Farmer was extradited to Washington from West Virginia, where he was in custody on unrelated charges.
