First-grader brings flare gun to Port Orchard school

PORT ORCHARD, Wash. (AP) — The Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a first-grade student brought a marine flare gun to a Port Orchard elementary school.

The Kitsap Sun reports (http://bit.ly/1NaUjeb ) that the East Port Orchard Elementary School student attempted to discharge the gun on the playground Wednesday, but it didn’t fire. There were no injuries.

Principal Paul Hulbert said in a message to parents that it is clear the student did not bring the flare gun to school in order to hurt others and that the student’s parents are cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
