PARIS (AP) — France has launched its first international Samuel Beckett festival celebrating the literary works of the Nobel Laureate.

The three-week Paris biennial features 16 performances of the Irish-born writer’s works — including “Waiting for Godot” in Yiddish with Klezmer music.

It’s aimed to bring fresh acclaim to the writer who wrote in French and English– and is beloved on both sides of the English Channel.

The Paris event is supported by the British Embassy and the Irish Cultural Center — testament to the three cultural claims on the writer who was born in Dublin, studied in Northern Ireland and lived in Paris where he died in 1989.

Irish Ambassador to France Geraldine Byrne Nason said that the festival strengthens the “rich connection” between the three countries.
