Tacoma city councilmember says he’d welcome Uber

While ride-share services are considering their relationship with Seattle due to potential new regulations, some Tacoma city officials are standing by to welcome them.

The Seattle City Council is scheduled to vote Monday on new rules that would limit the number of drivers that can be on the road at any one time for ride-sharing services, including UberX, Lyft, and Sidecar.

If the rideshare services are unhappy with the decision that comes from the Seattle City Council, they might find solace knowing other cities are interested in their business.

Tacoma City Councilmember Ryan Mellow tells KIRO Radio’s Jason Rantz that he’d welcome Uber and services like it in Tacoma.

“I use Uber when I travel to other cities. I see how it works so well, so easily and I’m looking forward to bringing this service to the city of Tacoma,” says Mellow.

While not familiar with all the details of the rideshare dispute making its way through the Seattle City Council, he knows he’d like to see more options for travelers in Tacoma.

“I’m focused on making sure that we have as many options as possible in Tacoma and looking forward to making sure that it’s a great business environment for Uber to operate in Tacoma.”
