Seattle considers lawsuit over squatters in Times building

SEATTLE (AP) — Seattle officials are considering legal action against the new owners of the old Seattle Times building after squatters have returned to the boarded up building weeks after police cleared out hundreds of people.

KOMO-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1LvHDeY ) that the Department of Planning and Development has asked Canadian developer Omni to add fencing and security around the Times building, but they have not complied.

Last month, Seattle police said as many as a few hundred squatters were living inside the building. Now many have returned despite new plywood boards on the windows.

Omni did not respond to a request for comment.

According to the Department of Planning and Development, there are 200 vacant buildings not properly secured with complaints filed against them.
