August 2015 Charity of the Month: Little Bit Therapeutic Riding Center

Little Bit Therapeutic Riding Center has been named Bonneville Seattle’s Charity of the Month for August, because they improve the bodies, minds, and spirits of children and adults with disabilities through equine-assisted therapy and activities.

The Little Bit Therapeutic Riding Center was founded in 1976 by a woman named Margaret Dunlap. Margaret had Multiple Sclerosis and found that being on the back of a horse slowed the advance of her disease.

From their humble beginnings of one horse and five riders, the Little Bit Therapeutic Riding Center has grown to be one of the largest nationally accredited, industry-leaving PATH (Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship) International centers and one of the largest full-time therapeutic horsemanship programs in the United States.

The Little Bit Therapeutic Riding Center offers Adaptive Riding and Hippotherapy, and serves 230 riders and patients each week with 22 horses and the help of more than 350 volunteers.
