One-armed basketball player may be playing in college

A high school guard from Alpharetta, Ga., has been offered a spot by Florida coach Billy Donovan as a preferred walk-on, according to Yahoo!’s Prep Rally.

Although the offer does not include a scholarship, it does offer the chance to earn one down the line.

That in itself is not that impressive or uncommon. That is until you hear what makes this young man’s achievements on the basketball court special.

Zach Hodskins was born without the lower half of his left arm.

He did so well for his summer traveling team that one recruiting site selected him as the most impressive prospect among some of the nation’s top players at a basketball camp in Virginia.

Chuck Van Keys, his high school basketball coach told NBA.com that Zach is just another one of the guys.

“We don’t give him any buffers. We don’t let him get away with anything extra. He’s expected to do the same thing everybody else does,” says Van Keys.

Zach averaged 11.3 points per game last season.
