Missing 10-year-old girl took bus from Redmond to Seattle
After about five hours of searching, a 10-year-old girl from Redmond was found safe in downtown Seattle.
King County search and rescue crews say Abbey was found at 9:20 p.m. A Seattle store owner recognized her from media reports and called police.
“She took a bus, essentially, to get to Seattle,” said Stan Seo with the King County Sheriff’s Office.
Abbey’s father said he last saw his daughter around 4 p.m. at their house in east Redmond. He reported her missing after searching for her himself.
Seo said that there doesn’t seem to be a criminal component to the incident and it’s likely a case of a curious kid.
“We’re gonna let the parents talk to their daughter, Abbey, and maybe set better rules and boundaries for her,” Seo said. “She’s safe and it’s a happy ending to a potentially dangerous situation.”
The King County Sheriff’s Office organized search and rescue teams, tracking dogs, and a helicopter to help search for Abbey.
Once located, she was checked out by medical personnel and found to be OK.
After interviewing Abbey, the sheriff’s office said that her story lines up with the timeline of witness sightings of the young girl.
