I-405 express toll lanes reach peak prices
It was a morning of records for the Puget Sound region.
As this month became the fastest December to reach 6 inches of rain, drivers helped to break a record on I-405.
Prices to drive in the express toll lanes reached $10 for the first time since they opened at the end of September, according to KIRO Radio traffic reporter Chris Sullivan. It’s the maximum the Washington State Department of Transportation is charging.

The toll prices increase as more drivers use them. The goal is to keep vehicles in those lanes moving at least 45 MPH.
Sullivan said the average commute time between Bellevue and Lynnwood was 35 minutes in the toll lanes and about an hour in general purpose lanes. The $10 toll only applied to the stretch between Lynnwood and Bothell where the express toll lanes consist of only one lane. The rate dropped in price south of Bothell.
