Obama’s Seattle Speech

–Producer Phil writes

The Senator lived up to billing at Key Arena.

Obama-Seattle

Listeners generally consumed Barack Obama’s speech one of two ways. 1.) They loved what they heard from him and are invigorated to hear his goals for America and the Beltway or 2.) They are skeptical that he can accomplish even a fraction of what he said (wages, health care, education, tax policy, foreign policy) and are fearful of the taxpayer costs associated with expanding or creating many of the programs he advocates.

So here are some of the e-mails during Dori’s show today that probably would have been worth mentioning on the air. All of them have validity in their respective subjects (er, at least I think so).

Pro-Obama

Every politician paints his picture of fantasy land. His is just a different fantasy land, and one you’re (Dori) not used to. Bush’s fantasy land = no cost war in Iraq. No cost tax cuts. No cost military buildup. Plus the multibillions of dollars of crap he proposed in his state of the union. They all do it. Why pick on Obama? They’re all full of BS.

Ok, Dori, put on your objective hat (if you have an objective hat) and think back to what you said earlier in your show. IT IS THEATRE!!! He is playing to his base. He is energizing his fans. This wasn’t a policy speech. This was a get fired up and go caucus for me speech. This was no different than the junk that came out of Bush’s mouth last election.

Were you listening to the same speech I was? I heard ‘tax cuts’ for the middle class, revoking the tax cut on the richest 1% (who will still be rich). As for funding all his programs? He plans to pull the troops from Iraq in ‘09. How can you possibly be concerned about inflating government from Barak (sic) after the last 7 years? My question is – why don’t these rich folks WANT to pay taxes to SUPPORT OUR NATION AT WAR ???(for our very existence if you listen to Bush and Cheney).

Anti-Obama

Obama said he was raised by him (sic) Mom and Grandma and they were very poor. However he seemed to do just fine without the Gov, he may even be president. So why does he now want the government to do everything for the “American People”. He didn’t need the government to do everything for his family? I so agree with your comment that he is an “empty suit.”

I am a member of the evil top 1% of taxpayers. I got here by creating hundreds of high-paying jobs and helping to change an industry. My firm – and me personally – contribute hundreds of thousands of dollars (as well as time) to benefit our community. Each year my company and I pay millions of dollars in taxes to the federal government. But apparently I am a bad guy – and I must “pay my fair share”. Apparently, the fact the me and my fellow 1%ers pay 37% of ALL federal income tax already is not good enough. At some point, taking money from me will create a disincentive for me to expand my business and create more jobs.

Obama said that he’s going to change the mind set that led this country into war. How’s he going to appease all of the radical Muslims? Obama said that he wouldn’t be afraid to negotiate with our enemies. The same Obama that won’t go to debates on Fox?
