Are you freakin’ kidding me?

This is a picture of Big Rig Dig – a work of “art” created by a Brooklyn “artist” for the Burning Man festival. Now this same artist has been hired by Sound Transit to create a piece for its Capital Hill station. The artists’ personal fee will be $110,000. His total budget is 550,000 taxpayer-funded dollars.
We don’t know what his Sound Transit piece will look like. What I do know is that this is a tremendous waste of tax money. Would any private person or entity give this guy $550,000?
So much of art is garbage – and so many of these artists could never survive if they didn’t hold up taxpayers to fund their works.
I have great respect for artists who create works that people or businesses want to buy. I have little respect for artists who are part of the “public art” scam. We need to get rid of the 1% for the arts program in this state. More on Monday’s show.
