Ciscoe’s Tips of the Week: Tune up your mower this winter

Ciscoe’s Tips of the Week:

Mowers should be winterized before storing for the winter. If you aren’t going to mow occasionally in winter, mow the lawn to use up most of the gas, and then let it run until all of the gas is used up. Put a drop of oil in the spark plug hole before putting it away for the season.

Consider taking the mower in during fall or winter for a sharpening and a tune up when folks who do this service aren’t near as busy as they will be in spring.

Don’t be too fastidious when it comes to neatening up the border in fall. Remove diseased or slimy foliage, as well as seed pods of overly rambunctious seeders. But leave drying foliage and seedpods to provide shelter and food for winter birds.
