Ordinary to Extraordinary: Egg Nog
It’s time to sip something special for the holidays: break out the egg nog.
But Tom Douglas and Thierry Rautureau find that egg nog is often too rich, and have a few suggestions to make yours a little lighter.
First, be 21 years old.
Start by lightening up the drink by folding in the egg whites and use a little whipped cream.
Then, booze it up.
“I have one ounce of egg nog for every four ounces of bourbon,” said Tom. But you don’t need to be so extreme.
Thierry said that once you have the egg nog and the liquor of your choice mixed (Tom prefers bourbon, Thierry and Katie O prefer a dark rum,) finish with a little bit of sugar at the end, so it’s kind of like a French meringue.
“Then I fold that in, so it’s nice and fluffy,” said Thierry.
Or if you want to skip egg nog altogether, everyone agrees that buttered rum is great holiday drink, too.
