The Kent Police Department has released surveillance photos of a man wanted in connection with shoplifting at a drug store that left a store manager dead.

Brody Koga, 52, was fatally injured while chasing the suspect out of the Kent Rite Aid on July 27. The man had stolen two cartons of cigarettes.

“We want to figure out what occurred and why this man had to die. We also recognize that it’s a matter of closure for his coworkers, his friends, and his family,” said Lieutenant Pat Lowery.

It is believed that Koga fell or tripped over a retaining wall and hit his head while in pursuit of the suspect.

Police are looking for a white male in his early 20s, 5’6″, 145 pounds, with light brown hair. At the time of the theft, he was wearing black shorts and a black t-shirt with a yellow Nike logo.

A woman who may also have been involved in the shoplifting incident has been identified and police are interviewing her to help find the second suspect.

Lowery said it is unclear whether the suspected shoplifter will also be charged in relation to Koga’s death.

If you have any information on the shoplifting incident or the suspect, you are asked to call the Kent Police Department at 253-856-5808.
