Man accused of hitting kids at bus stop appears in court

SEATTLE (AP) — A 19-year-old man who authorities say drove a pickup truck on a suspended license and slammed into children at a school bus stop in a small town outside Seattle has appeared in court.

Investigators believe Tanner Sypole may have had a seizure before striking a group of 11-and 12-year-olds Thursday morning. One boy was taken to a hospital with serious injuries to his chest while another had a broken leg and a third had a suspected broken ankle.

Three additional children suffered cuts and bruises.

Sypole was found unconscious behind the wheel with his foot still on the gas. He was evaluated but not taken to a hospital.

A judge released Sypole on his own recognizance Friday, saying he has no prior criminal record.

He could be charged Monday with multiple counts of vehicular assault, documents said.
