Minority Leader Pelosi raises $16 million for House Dems

WASHINGTON (AP) — House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi of California has raised $16 million in the first quarter of this year to support House Democrats.

The haul comes despite long odds for Democrats in their hopes of retaking the House. It’s nearly as much as the $17.2 million that new Speaker Paul Ryan raised during the first three months of the year for House Republicans.

Pelosi has long been a prodigious fundraiser. Her fundraising total includes $14.2 million raised directly for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, House Democrats’ campaign arm. It includes $4.4 million that she raised at two events featuring President Barack Obama.

The fundraising by Ryan and Pelosi is all the more impressive given it’s a presidential campaign year with control of the Senate in play, drawing donors’ attention.
