Nebraska Republican Ben Sasse announces Cruz vote on Twitter

WASHINGTON (AP) — Sen. Ben Sasse has taken to Twitter to announce he and his wife Melissa have early voted for Texas GOP Sen. Ted Cruz as the best way to stop Donald Trump.

At 44, the Nebraska Republican freshman is one of the Senate’s more prolific tweeters and has tangled with @realDonaldTrump on the medium.

Sasse told his almost 33,000 Twitter followers that “Melissa and I just early-voted for @tedcruz to #StopTrump.”

It’s hardly a ringing endorsement. Cruz is widely disliked in the Senate. Utah Republican Sen. Mike Lee has endorsed Cruz, and South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham has offered a half-hearted endorsement.

Sasse added it’s “time for conservatives to unite” in winner-take-all Nebraska, though he had to truncate Nebraska to N-e-b-r since he’d hit his 140-character limit.
