What made Wednesday the ‘worst commute’ of 2016

The worst commute of 2016 can be attributed to several crashes that culminated in a perfect storm of traffic jams around Seattle.

By approximately 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, the commute from Lynnwood to Seattle &#8212 13 miles &#8212 was about an hour and 45 minutes, according to KIRO Radio traffic reporter Chris Sullivan. The drive from Lynnwood to Bellevue was running at an hour.

This was caused by crashes throughout the area that left extensive backups for drivers trying to escape the messes.

A crash on Montlake Bridge caused a ripple effect on I-5. Because of that, traffic began backing up on State Route 520.

A crash near Mountlake Terrace, and another near the West Seattle Bridge, added to the mess.
