Seattle’s refusal to accept diversity has real life consequences

The residents of Seattle refuse to accept the reality of diversity and their lack of intellectual curiosity has rendered the Seattle City Government incapable of compromise, cooperation or creativity. They are left with only with cronyism and coercion.

Mayor Ed Murray has declared homelessness a federal emergency in Seattle. Doing so will free the mayor up to take quicker action outside of the usual machinations of bureaucracy. Freed from the limiting factors of the usual restraints on government will Ed Murray bravely reach out to thinkers from across the spectrum of ideas to gather input on how we can take advantage of this moment of freedom to stop doing what has not worked?

No. Mayor Murray will do exactly two things: spend more of our money and expand government.

The mayor has other options, but he cannot see them because Ed Murray is entirely surrounded by people who think exactly like he does about everything. Spending money and expanding government is what they do- for everything. They can see no other options.

-Too much money in politics? Easy, take money away from homeowners, build a new government department and print laughably named Democracy Vouchers: government is not just grown, it is now empowered to force people to fund political speech that they abhor. Does that take money out of politics? Hardly. It empowers the biggest spenders in our elections, Big Government Labor Unions.

-Traffic is a huge problem in Seattle. What to do? Invent new government divisions like Sound Transit, feed it more money and expect different results. When traffic does not improve, create more government, and spend more money and promise different results.

-As homelessness has grown in Seattle as a direct result of the intellectual laziness of Seattle voters which has created the circumstance of The Seattle City Council effectively recruiting homeless people to come here, Ed Murray declares an emergency which further empowers government and he instantly spends more money.

Mayor Murray is incapable of creativity, cooperation or creativity so he is left to coerce people whom would prefer to not live in a real life version of Ground Hog Day and to give cronies – look no further than Seattle Tunnel Partners – more money.

The lack of any interest in intellectual diversity among Seattle voters is harming the people being coerced by the spend and empower negative loop of Seattle government.

My colleague, the great Dori Monson of KIRO Radio received an email that perfectly describes how the intellectual bigotry in Seattle ruins the lives of real people.

Katherine, 68, in Ballard told Dori that when she saw television footage of Ed Murray’s cronies celebrating the passing of the nearly billion dollar Move Seattle levy, she felt like she was “getting slapped in the face.”

“‘I’ve been up all night crying,'” she wrote. “‘My husband and I bought our house in your old Ballard neighborhood in 1986. We paid $85,000. We put a lot of work and love into this old house and fixed it up really cute. The county now has it assessed at $800,000. Our property taxes are nearly $10,000 per year.'”

Katherine’s husband passed away three years ago and she is now on a fixed income. With higher property taxes, she believes she will have to sell her house.

“‘I have to sell the house that we raised our children in,'” Katherine wrote. “‘I love this house. I love my neighborhood. I love my neighbors. But more than anything, I love the memories.'”

Because Seattle voters are unwilling to accept intellectual diversity, a woman is going to lose her home and the people who have priced her out of it will continue to dance and celebrate.
